Here at IL softball we are all about getting the word out to help everyone, whether its camps, games etc, but in this case its a little different, pls read on and help out anyway you can, the contact info is below any question you can ask Melissa Koch mkoch1974@gmail.com
As I am sure you are aware Washington, East Peoria and Pekin were hit hard by tornados on November 17. Over 1000 homes in Washington alone were destroyed along with all of their possessions. All 3 of these communities are huge softball towns for schools and travel. Lots of players lost equipment. If any teams out there would be willing to donate items I will get you in touch with a church that has been instrumental in helping residents get back on their feet. On the field we may be competitors but this sport has shown me that off the field we are all family.
I wanted to let you know where we are at right now. I have sent a letter to an area church to request the use of their tax id# so donations will be tax deductible and so people will feel safe donating.
I am just a mom who knows how expensive equipment can be and also I know first hand from friends going through it..their softball equipment is the furthest from their minds when itemizing their lives that have been destroyed by this storm. When the time comes for practices to begin again the need will slap them all in the face and I don't want to see them have this added expense.
If everyone would bare with me at the moment while I get a few more things in place I would appreciate it. If you have already begun collecting donations that is wonderful! We will be taking all forms of donations...gift cards to sports stores, used equipment, new equipment - how ever your heart calls you to donate these families will be grateful.
I have never done anything like this before so if anyone has experience please speak up. This was a thought I had that you all made a reality. Thank you all and I will keep you updated!
