Softball Welcomes Kathy Young to Staff as Assistant Coach
Softball-CH
CHICAGO – Robert Morris University Head Softball Coach Dave Snooks has announced the addition of Kathy Young to the Eagles' staff as an assistant coach for the 2014-2015 season.
Young has 22 years of coaching experience, 10 within the CCAC and the last 12 years as Director of Fastpitch Operations with the Chicago Bulls/Sox Academy located in Lisle, Illinois. Young has developed one of the most competitive travel team programs in the Midwest capturing four ASA Chicago Metro Championships within the past four years.
"We couldn't ask for a better fit for our program," said RMU Head Coach Dave Snooks. "We struggled at the plate last season and her technical expertise working with hitters should help us get to where we need to be to compete in our conference."
Young is familiar with the CCAC, as she was an assistant coach for Saint Xavier University from 1992-2002. During her time at Saint Xavier, Young helped lead the Cougars to five CCAC Championships and ten consecutive NAIA playoff appearances, including three NAIA Great Lakes Regional Tournaments, two NAIA Region VII Tournaments, and one NAIA National Tournament.
"Kathy knows our conference, knows our competition and knows the game," added Snooks. "She is very experienced and we are fortunate to have her join us next season."
She is also a former standout player at Saint Xavier (1988-1990). Young's individual athletic accomplishments include National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) All-American Honorable Mention, NAIA District 20 Team member, a two-time Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) All-Conference selection, Most Valuable Player, SXU Hustle Award and Team Captain.
"We are honored to welcome a high level coach such as Kathy Young to the RMU program," stated Director of Athletics Megan Smith Eggert. "A true teacher of the game, Kathy exudes the experience, knowledge, and high energy that is sure to make an immediate impact for the 2014-2015 season."
