I sit here in my perch, watching what has become of my beloved game, missing the days when DIDI was around and made the game fun for coaches and girls alike. Like him or not He brought us together in the game, Friend not foes. Many have forgotten these lessons for whatever reason. Me enjoying my holiday in the 19 and over division, while I see the game lose its innocence due to greed, pompousness, and lack of loyalty. First, I will address greed. I read if this team breaks up the game will be better, if this coach gets canned the game will be better, and if my daughter dont get enuff time the game will be better. Personal greed of money, power, and some coaches perceived power has bastardized this game. Everybody thinks those who run tournaments make big bucks, that aint true , if you think of all the hours it takes to pull one off. Coaches always think they can do it better, but few actually had the intestinal fortitude to put up or shut up. Secondly, look at all the new teams their are!!! Growth usually in a business sense is a good thing, but every vicarious Dad starts a new team so he can live his lack of athletic prowess thru his next generation of namesake. For every team that fold, the game takes a hit at its purest form. So many coaches out there beating their chests, I won this, I won that. Although, it is human nature to love accolades, when I got into coaching softball 20 years ago, it was to me what it still is to me todaY Helping kids get better at the end of the year then they were at the beginning AND TO TEACH THEM LIFE LESSON!!! HOW TO DEAL WITH WINNING AND LOSING, REPECTING OTHER PEOPLE and DEALING WITH ADVERSITY!!! What do we teach them when we jump down their throats in expleted/deleted manor when they make an error, or when we tantrum when an ump makes a call against us. NOTHING, time to think before we open our mouths!!! Finally, I see coaches dump kids to take "better" kids, Kids jump from team to team cuz the "grass is greener", and we dont show loyalty to girls, teams, or the great game. I am a realest and know we are not going to go back, but the future is one step in front of us. I will listen to your feedback, cuz I aint hard to find, I dont run fast, and am not afraid to express myself. I am Billy te KID and I am proud to be the Midwest Elite 19 and OVer Head Coach!!!
