This is Bill Conroy, this is my first time posting here after being asked to have my own forum. This weeks hot topic appears to be what is ethical and proper in regards to recruiting at the club level.
I am still trying to figure out how to navigate thru this site but I will figure it out eventually but in the meantime I wanted to make a few comments about this week's hot topic.
The Beverly Bandits have 110 players in the organization with expectations of having as many as 125 next year. Recruiting is how I have made my living in the IT industry for over 30 years, so it comes second nature to me in regards to building a program.
For me, recruiting starts at the top, you need the right coaches in place before you do anything. Once you have your coaches secured, you need to make sure you have the right facilities to practice in the Fall and Winter.
Then it is time to evaluate our current roster and make decisions as to what players will be ready to move up and which players need to stay down in order to develop.
After the internal evaluation, I look externally to fill the few needs that can't be filled from within the Bandit program.
I usually do this between the end of Fall ball and the beginning of HS softball. I prefer to bring an entire team but we only have 5 needs based on my evaluations for next years three 16U teams and two 18U teams. The 14U teams will need to be replenished almost completely since everyone is moving up. I prefer working with coaches to put together the next years team and I have found a growing number of coaches realizing that the Bandits have something to offer that they may not be able to equal.
I like doing my recruiting early so both me , the player I have recruited and their families, can focus on softball and having an enjoyable summer. I know there are plenty of arguments against my style but it works for me!
I hope next time, I will have figured out how to put this all in one thread. For a guy who owns an IT consulting firm, I am technology challenged!
