I asked Liz Jagielski one of the Best Slapping coaches around for some Tips for all the slappers out there working on their craft.
A little info on Liz
She is the GM for the IL Orland Park A's,
Liz Jagielski (Bouck), a former DePaul All-American,In 2010, Jagielski teamed with Lenti and Cat Osterman in being honored as the BIG EAST Conference Coaching Staff of the Year---Jagielski's third such honor since 2007. Working as a slap coach , Jagielski has mentored some of the best slappers in the country.
Following her collegiate career, Jagielski was chosen in the first round of the National Pro Fastpitch League by the Arizona Heat. She was traded to the Texas Thunder and led their offense with a .299 batting average. Her second year in the League landed her in Chicago, playing for the Chicago Bandits, a team coached by Eugene Lenti
Quick Tips for Slapping
1. Get the ball out in front of the box!
2. Recognize there are many different slaps
3. Basics: Hands stay back when power slapping, Hands can come forward if soft slapping for more control
4. Get full use of the box and make sure feet are lined up where you are hitting the front of the box not right on the plate where the ball breaks
5. Keep fast feet unless you are making an adjustment to just make contact or for added power( ex. 2 Strikes and trying to move a runner over)
6. Know your role! Get the offense going!
7. Create your own SWAG. Whats fun about slapping is you can be creative in how you hide your hands and use different types of footwork. NOT EVERYONE SLAPS THE SAME!
8. #1 SIN OF A SLAPPER-striking out.
9. Make it basic in the box. See the ball....hit the ball.
